What helps with bloating?

Bloating can be a symptom of an underlying gut health issue like constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, food intolerances or overeating. To treat the associated symptom of bloating we can use some dietary tips, herbs and supplements to help.

My recommendations to patients are to:

1. Eat smaller more frequent meals than larger bigger meals at one time

2. Use digestive enzymes to help break down carbohydrates and proteins

3. Add probiotics if there is a thick white coating over the tongue

4. I prescribe herbal remedies that help, a great combination is DIGEST which includes a blend of:

Mandarin- helps healthy gut bacteria, rich in Vitamin C

Ginger – is a digestive for nausea, morning sickness and digestive weakness

Gentian – low stomach acid, flatulence, colic, abdominal bloating, nausea, food sensitivities

Wormwood- intestinal parasites, digestive weakness, bloating, nausea.

5. Avoid trigger foods associated common foods are gluten, dairy, lentils and cruciferous vegetables. Even though these may be healthy foods you have to address your gut health in order to better tolerate these.
